How The Study Room works
Is The Study Room an online school?
No. Families independently choose and enrol with an online school. The Study Room provides the physical learning environment, supervision, teacher guidance, daily routine and social connection around that programme.
Which grades do you support?
The Study Room supports learners in Grades 8–12.
Which curricula and online schools do you support?
Families may choose the provider that suits their child. Learners can follow CAPS, IEB, Cambridge, GED or another online programme. The curriculum, lessons and assessments are supplied by the chosen online school.
Is there a teacher onsite?
Yes. Marikie du Plessis is a qualified and experienced teacher as well as The Study Room’s centre manager. She supervises learners and provides guidance and support throughout the day.
Does Marikie replace the online-school teachers?
No. Subject teaching, lessons and assessments remain the responsibility of the chosen online provider. Marikie supports the learner’s routine, focus and engagement and offers guidance when help is needed.
Hours, routine and flexibility
What are the operating hours?
The Study Room is open from 08:00 to 13:30, Monday to Friday, during government school terms.
Are you open during school holidays?
No. The Study Room closes during government school holidays.
Can my child continue learning while our family travels?
Yes. One advantage of online schooling is that the programme can travel with the learner. When your child returns, they can settle back into the familiar environment and routine of The Study Room.
Will you communicate with me about my child?
Yes. We value open, responsive communication. Parents are welcome to speak with Marikie about their child’s routine, progress or any concerns.
Is there time for sport and social interaction?
Yes. Learners spend time alongside their peers and have space for movement and sport on the secure KATZ Academy campus.
Practical questions
What should my child bring?
Learners should bring a laptop, charger, headphones, online-school login details and any books or other resources required by their chosen programme.
How much does it cost?

Can we visit before deciding?
Yes. Parents are welcome to arrange a meeting with Marikie and walk through the space to see how The Study Room works.
